The Department of Public and Law Disciplines commenced its activities in 2004 in accordance with Order №4 of March 17th, 2004, gradually increasing the quantitative and qualitative components of its activities.
The Department offers Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees programs in Law in compliance with the European standards of higher education and the requirements of the Bologna Declaration, as well as provides general legal training for students of other specialities of DSUM.

The Department ensures educational and professional programs in the speciality 081 "Law", curricula for training specialists in the field of jurisprudence; organization and implementation of the educational process at the appropriate scientific and methodological levels; preparation and systematic updating of methodical textbooks on educational disciplines; assistance in raising the level of professional and pedagogical skills of the teaching staff; interaction with other educational institutions, public authorities and local governments.
Practitioners of enterprises, organizations and institutions, lawyers, notaries, assistant judges, prosecutors, police, etc. are constantly involved in conducting various forms of educational activities in the scope of the Department disciplines.
At the lectures, seminars and practical classes, students discuss real-life cases, gain new knowledge, practice their skills, and improve their learning techniques.
The teaching staff of the Department introduce interactive methods and forms of teaching in the educational process.

The Department conducts the research according to its profile and together with students implements their scientific results into the educational process.
Since 2015, academic staff and students, have been conducting the research within the scientific theme "Legal basis of police units of local governments" № 0110U003043: head of the research team - Head of the Department, Ass. Prof. O.Kuleshov, PhD in Law.
During the period 2015-2019, the Department published:
90 scientific articles (39 of them in professional journals)
88 conference abstracts.
During this time, 5 PhD dissertation researches in the speciality 12.00.01 - Theory and History of State and Law; the History of Political and Legal Doctrines have been defended.
At the Department of Public and Law Disciplines, there is a students’ scientific club "Fairway of Law"
The results of its activities are implemented in preparation of scientific papers for competitions at various levels, publishing of scientific articles and abstracts in conference proceedings and professional legal journals.
The Department staff have done their internships at Prague Institute for Qualification Enhancement (Prague, Czech Republic). They take part in international conferences, symposia, seminars, collective monographs on a regular basis.
