tourism

The sphere of the professional activity of the Department of Tourism is educating the Bachelor’s degree students in tourism and Master’s degree students in tourism management, scientific work on the formation of tourist attractiveness of Ukrainian cities, internationalization of education.

In the process of learning, students acquire skills in modelling tourism activities, forecasting trends in tourism, analysis of financial and economic activities of travel agencies, developing marketing strategies and advertising of tourism activities, designing tourist routes and organizing tours.

Competitive advantages of educational programs of the Department of Tourism are the following:

  • practical mastering of skills in tourism;

  • learning two foreign languages;

  • confident mastery of modern information technologies;

  • access to international academic mobility programs and other educational and research projects;

  • educational programs are designed taking into account the newest tendencies of the labour market and in collaboration with the leading representatives of the tourist industry in Ukraine;

  • involvement of representatives of the business environment in the teaching process;

  • support in employment at the Department partner companies and potential employers.

Graduates of the Department can be employed as business leaders in the field of services and tourism, managers of cultural heritage protection, specialists in promotions and image policy etc.

The teaching staff of the Department of Tourism harmoniously combines scholars and practitioners who have completed internships at European Universities and have extensive experience in teaching professional disciplines in the student-centred educational space.

84% of teaching staff have scientific degrees, others are carrying out the research to obtain a PhD degree.

Practitioners from local governments, institutions and leading enterprises in the sphere of tourism are actively involved in the teaching process.

Cooperation with leading travel companies allows solving issues of internships and educational tours for students and staff.

To develop the soft skills of the students, the Department provides the following opportunities:

  • participation in international projects of the University;
  • participation in the work of public organizations, volunteer events, etc.;
  • round tables with trendsetters in tourism business and public leaders, professors of foreign universities;
  • organization and participation in educational activities and events at DSUM, local level and by the State Agency of Ukraine on Tourism and Resorts.

The Department of Tourism promotes the introduction of the best world experience in ensuring the quality of education, taking into consideration the requirements of the labour market.

A student-centred approach is applied in the educational process; the studying is organized in modernly equipped rooms using high-tech devices and communication tools.

The experienced teaching staff have accumulated best practices of interactive teaching methods that serve to improve the quality of the educational process, including through the use of multimedia, graphic visualization, reference books, mental maps, infographics and comics and etc.

The Department teaches academic disciplines, which are the basis for acquiring the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge of the professional field.

In accordance with the requirements of the student-centred approach to education in the speciality "Tourism", the Department provides the student with the right to form an individual educational trajectory through the elective disciplines.

Students have the opportunity to undergo practical training in organizations and institutions in the tourism sector.

The research activities of the Department is introduced within the scientific theme:"Organizational and economic principles of formation of tourist attractiveness of the cities in Ukraine (head of the research group - Prof. A.Stoyka).

The staff have published over 50 scientific papers in professional journals of Ukraine and abroad, along with a number of articles included in the scientometric databases Scopus and Web of Science.
